Simon Weston CBE talks about EB
Interviewed by Dennis Duncan
(First Broadcast 29th October 2024)
In a fascinating conversation, Dennis Duncan chats to Simon Weston CBE about his work as president of DEBRA UK, the skincare charity.
Around 5000 people in the UK currently live with EB (epidermolysis bullosa, a painful genetic skin blistering condition), but this figure may be under reported as EB often goes undiagnosed. Sufferers have skin as thin as a butterfly’s wings meaning the slightest knock or minor friction can cause the skin to blister and tear, resulting in excrutiating pain. In the worst cases, EB can even be fatal.
Simon goes on to talk about how he has coped following his time in the Falklands which left him with life changing injuries.
